DECISIONS, PLANS AND PLANES.

I never dreamt of travelling around the World, or maybe I did, not for the travelling itself , but as a result of my real dream that was being a singer. Today, in my thirties, I’m a graphic designer with a degree in communications, an in-home singer, and a globetrotter in every possible opportunity.

Until a couple of years ago, getting on a plane seemed something so unattainable to me as getting on a spaceship, mainly for two reasons: the first one is that during my childhood and adolescence it wasn’t as accesible as it is now; and second, until I travelled for the first time I didn’t have a real clue of how to save for travel and how to manage my budget once the adventure had begun. The good news is that it’s so much easier than I had imagined. Until 2015, I had gone only to some places in my neighbour countries, Argentina and Brazil, and by bus,that while much cheaper, the 36 hour trip from Uruguay to Bariloche makes you think about it twice.

The thing was that in 2014, one of my friends was living in Búzios, Brazil and we had planned that I visited him on summer 2015. The date to go was getting close, I had my plane ticket, but something deep inside me didn’t want to go, mainly because even considering the differences between both places, I was going to travel and spend a lot of money in doing exactly the same I do at home, going to the beach. After A LOT of phone calls to the airline callcenter where I was offered flights with scales that made actually not sense at all, I went straight to the office to make a change, without really knowing where to go. But, as the intuitive person I am, I was confident that some place was going to look like the perfect choice inmediatelly, like a love at first sight kind of thing. And so it was.

When I walked into the office I saw this sign with the price of the flight to Cusco, Peru. I chose the date, payed the difference and went back home to wait for the following months to go by. Everybody was terrified of me travelling by myself to Peru, an unknown place. Everyone except me, I don’t know if it was because of my independent nature, or just because I was being senseless. Actually, the only real fear I had was to be afraid or paralized and change that flight again. Thankfully, that did not happen. The day came, I got on that plane and I’m pretty sure that decision changed my life.
